Important news for travellers to Europe: After 31 December 2005, the E111 will no longer be valid. It is being replaced by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which has been available since September 2005. Just like the E111, the EHIC is free-of-charge and entitles UK residents to reduced-cost, sometimes free, healthcare that becomes necessary whilst visiting most European countries.
